Are your clients companies or self-employed registered in a country of the European Union?<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\"><b>We explain how to invoice your international clients (self-employed or companies).<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<h1 class=\"font-degular\" id=\"h_db3200baec\"><b>Should I charge VAT to my clients based in the European Union?<\/b><\/h1>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">Sales and purchases between self-employed or companies within the European Union are subject to the <b>intra-European reverse-charge regime<\/b>. This means that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">As a supplier, <b>you do not charge VAT<\/b> of your country to your clients within the EU<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">As a client, <b>you do not owe VAT<\/b> to the administration of the country where your supplier is based.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">Specifically, when you create an invoice under the reverse-charge regime for your client, you will specify their VAT number, and you will charge them goods and\/or services excluding VAT. You can check the validity of your client\u2019s VAT number on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/taxation_customs\/vies\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link font-inter\">VIES<\/a> tool of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">\n<h1 class=\"font-degular\" id=\"h_304c8d3ef9\"><b>Pre-requisites<\/b><\/h1>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">If your Steuernummer is used on your sales invoices for your German clients, you need a dedicated European VAT number in order to charge your European clients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"no-margin font-inter\">You can request a VAT-ID through an online form directly on the Finanzamt website.
