You\u2019ll pay around \u20ac8,440 in social security contributions per year, or \u20ac2,110 per quarter. So in December, check whether your estimate matches your actual income.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\">If you pay\u00a0<strong>too little in social security contributions after decreasing the amount<\/strong>, you\u00a0<strong>will have to pay a\u00a0<a class=\"font-inter text-purple underline underline-offset-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inasti.be\/fr\/faq\/et-si-je-ne-paie-pas-mes-cotisations\">surcharge<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(a fine). At the end of the year, these can accumulate, and they\u2019re not\u00a0<strong>tax deductible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\" id=\"Increasing\"><strong>Increasing your social security contributions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\"><strong>In principle, you can increase your social security contributions at any time.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\">If you\u2019re sure that you\u2019re currently paying too little in social security contributions, it\u2019s wise to increase the amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list list-disc list-outside ml-0 mb-4 space-y-2\">\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your payments will be\u00a0<strong>spread out more evenly<\/strong>, meaning you won&#8217;t have much extra to pay later (or much less in any case).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"font-inter text-base text-black\">Your quarterly contribution is\u00a0<strong>100% deductible.<\/strong>\u00a0However, if you have to make additional payments later, these will not be deductible. It\u2019s therefore in your best interest to estimate your actual income as accurately as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\">Still unsure of your income for this year? It\u2019s better to wait until the end of the year to increase your social security contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\">Have you paid too much in social security contributions? The amount will be <strong>regularised <\/strong>after three years (when your social security fund knows your actual income). You\u2019ll then be entitled to a refund. Be warned though, you\u2019ll have to&nbsp;<strong>pay taxes on this refund<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\" id=\"Adjust\"><strong>How to adjust your social security contributions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\"><strong>To adjust your social security contributions, you need to submit a request via your social security fund.<\/strong>&nbsp;Often, you can simply log in to the web portal of your social security fund and do it yourself. Once the change is confirmed, you\u2019ll receive an&nbsp;adjustment<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>to&nbsp;<strong>settle the difference between your current amount and the new amount<\/strong>.&nbsp;The adjustment or modification of your social security contributions is&nbsp;<strong>free<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading font-degular scroll-mt-32\" id=\"Consequences\"><strong>Consequences of adjusting your social security contributions&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-inter text-base leading-relaxed mb-4 first-of-type:mt-0 text-black\">By changing the amount of your social security contributions, you\u2019re adapting them to your actual situation, which typically fluctuates.
