As a savvy entrepreneur, you probably know that electronic invoicing via Peppol will be mandatory from 1 January 2026. And there’s a good chance you’ve already registered on the Peppol network via your invoicing software.

But what if you want to switch to another software solution, which means changing your Peppol Access Point? Is it possible? Do you then need to re-register, or is your registration still valid? The short answer: yes, you need to re-register.

On this page, we explain step-by-step how to change your Peppol Access Point as a self-employed person.

What is a Peppol Access Point?

A Peppol Access Point acts as a gateway to the Peppol network. It provides the digital link between companies or accounting firms and Peppol for sending and receiving electronic invoices.

Essentially, e-invoicing software like Accountable acts as a 'post office' within the Peppol network.

Your registration on Peppol is linked to your VAT number and a specific Access Point, namely the software or service provider that places and receives your documents on the network.

Why can I only be registered with one Peppol Access Point at a time?

The Peppol network assigns all users a unique Participant Identifier, or Peppol ID, linked to an Access Point. This way, the network always knows through which channel your invoices should be sent and received.

But this also means you can't use multiple e-invoicing solutions at the same time, each with its own Peppol Access Point. Wondering what would happen if you did? Well, there would be conflicts on the Peppol network, and your e-invoice might not reach its destination.

As a self-employed person, you can only access the Peppol network through a single Access Point. Do you want to switch to a new e-invoicing solution? If so, you first need to deregister from your current Access Point.

How do I switch to a new Peppol Access Point?

You might be thinking: this is all a bit too technical for me! Fortunately, switching to a new Peppol Access Point isn't actually that complicated.

Follow these steps to register on Peppol via Accountable:

  1. Contact your current e-invoicing software provider and ask them to deactivate or delete your Peppol registration.
  2. Wait for confirmation of the deactivation/deletion. This is important, because it’s not possible to re-register with the with the same VAT number if your old registration is still active.
  3. Re-register on Peppol via Accountable. Once you've received confirmation that you’re deregistered from your old Access Point, you can register via the Accountable app. It's quick and easy: you just need to provide your VAT number. For the rest, simply follow the steps in the app.
  4. And voilà, it’s done! From now on, your electronic invoicing will go through Peppol via Accountable. You can send invoices securely to organisations and businesses connected to the Peppol network.

What if you don’t remember which Access Point you’re registered with?

Not sure which Peppol Access Point you're connected to? No problem, you can check online on the Peppol Service Metadata Publisher. This is a kind of search engine that tells you which registration is linked to your VAT number.

Important points to remember

  • Peppol's one-Access-Point-per-user rule: Peppol users can only use one Access Point at a time. Attempting to use multiple access points may cause technical issues.
  • Switching to another Access Point is completely free. Most e-invoicing solutions, like Accountable, don’t charge anything for this change.
  • Security first! Yes, all these procedures are annoying. But the rules are there to ensure security and integrity. After all, the whole point of e-invoicing is to guarantee secure invoicing.
