Starting in 2026, all invoices between Belgian companies will have to go through the Peppol network. But did you know that you can already receive your utility invoices in electronic format now? You can request this from the main water and energy suppliers in Belgium by filling out an online form. This quick guide explains how to activate electronic invoicing at Engie.

How do I start getting electronic invoices from Engie?

Do you own or rent a premises that’s used solely for your professional activity? And do you receive separate energy bills for that premises via a professional account with Engie? If yes, you can now receive your energy bills in the form of e-invoices.

To be able to receive electronic invoices from Engie, you first need to be registered on Peppol. Have you already signed up? Great, then keep reading.

Not yet registered on Peppol? Then start here: Receiving e-invoices: first, register on Peppol

To do this, simply activate electronic invoicing on your Engie professional account.

Here are the steps:

  1. Complete the Engie online form.
  2. Engie processes your request.
  3. The following month, you’ll receive your first electronic invoice.

⚠️  Electronic invoices are only possible between companies. So if you only receive invoices for your private home, you don’t have a professional account with Engie. You therefore won’t be able to receive your electronic invoices via Peppol, even if you deduct part of your energy costs.

What is Peppol and what is electronic invoicing?

An important point: electronic invoices and digital invoices are not one and the same. While a PDF invoice is a digital invoice, it is not an electronic invoice.

Electronic invoices, also called e-invoices, are XML files transferred in UBL format via the Peppol network. Thanks to these UBL standards, all the necessary information is included on the invoice, and it can be read by accounting or invoicing software.

These software programs can automatically create, receive, and even process electronic invoices. They can even be authorised to pay invoices automatically.

💡 Accountable tip: You can use Accountable to receive and send electronic invoices via the Peppol network, even if you’re using the free version. Try Accountable now.

To activate electronic invoicing via Peppol with Engie or any other supplier, you need to be using invoicing or accounting software. Then, it’s just a question of signing up with Peppol. Registration is simple and free.

Here's how to register via Accountable:

  1. Log in via the website or app.
  2. Open the menu and click on 'Settings'.
  3. Select ‘Peppol (e-invoicing)’.
  4. Register to receive electronic invoices via the Peppol network.

It can take a while for your registration to be active. To see if it worked, check if your company is registered in the Peppol Directory.

Electronic invoices from your suppliers? Now it’s automatic

After registering with Peppol, you sometimes need to activate electronic invoicing with a supplier, as in the case of Engie. For other suppliers who are already using e-invoicing, the switch may be automatic. Your electronic invoices will then appear just as automatically in the expenses tab in Accountable. More time saved!

The coaching session on tax management was excellent, good material, excellent explanations and very insightful…my accountant and tax advisor are good, but never so comprehensive and accurate. Combined with the AI I never feel alone with Accountable

altijd snelle, vriendelijke en professionele service. Ook al heb ik door gebrek aan activiteit weinig gebruik kunnen maken van uw diensten. Gisteren heb ik het contract opgezegd, en ook dat is heel vlot verlopen. Waarvoor dank.

The availability of your team to help and guide people to understand their finances better is what really makes Accountable valuable. While the AI is able to give answer to most of the basic questions, specific scenarios need counsel from a human which your team performs beautifully.
