Peppol e-invoices can sometimes be rejected for various reasons, which can delay payments and create frustration. Understanding why your invoice was rejected and knowing how to fix it is crucial to ensure your transactions go smoothly. In this article, we’ll walk you through the most common causes of Peppol e-invoice rejections and provide simple steps to resolve them in Accountable.
A Peppol e-invoice may be rejected for several reasons, typically due to issues with the receiving party’s system or incorrect formatting. Here are some of the most common causes:
The client is not correctly registered on the Peppol network.
The VAT number is invalid or does not match the Peppol ID.
The invoice is missing mandatory information (e.g., invoice number, dates, totals).
There is a mismatch between the buyer's details and what’s registered in Peppol.
Technical validation errors in the UBL (Universal Business Language) structure.
When you send an invoice via Peppol through Accountable, our system actively monitors the delivery status. If the invoice is rejected, you’ll receive a notification within the app. The notification will typically explain the reason for the rejection (if available) and suggest the next steps to resolve the issue.ps.
If your Peppol e-invoice is rejected, don't worry! Here’s what you should do:
Review the rejection reason: The notification should provide a clear reason for the rejection. Common reasons are usually related to small errors in the data.
Correct the invoice or client’s information:
Double-check the VAT number and ensure the address details are accurate.
Make sure all mandatory fields (e.g., invoice number, dates, totals) are correctly completed.
If necessary, contact your client to confirm their Peppol registration and ensure they’re listed correctly in the network.
Resend the corrected invoice: Once the issue is fixed, you can resend the corrected invoice through Peppol directly from Accountable.
Yes, you can still send the invoice if Peppol isn’t an option or if the rejection can’t be resolved quickly. In these cases, you can:
Send the invoice by email or as a PDF: While this bypasses the Peppol network, it ensures your client still receives the invoice.
This option helps you avoid delays while waiting for issues with Peppol to be resolved.

This program is a lifesaver, and it is always improving. Plus, it has an AI chat feature that is actually useful.
The coaching session on tax management was excellent, good material, excellent explanations and very insightful. Combined with the AI I never feel alone with Accountable.
The availability of your team to help and guide people to understand their finances better is what really makes Accountable valuable. While the AI is able to give answers to most basic questions, specific scenarios need counsel from a human which your team performs beautifully.
Fast and careful answers from Alina. Top service. Thank you.
They always answer for questions wherever is via direct e-mail or through app. If they can’t answer fully they will forward you to the right place. Documents were always prepared well and ready to send further to government. Everything is intuitive in the app and easy to sort out even for someone completely green in this field.
