Did you sell products or services to VAT-registered clients in other EU countries last quarter? If so, you need to file an intra-community, or intra-EU, VAT statement. This is a declaration that lists everything you sold to clients in other European countries.

Who needs to submit an intra-community statement?

Any self-employed person who is subject to VAT or falls under the VAT exemption scheme for small businesses (annual turnover under €25,000) and has sold services or products to companies subject to VAT in another EU country needs to submit an intra-community statement.

You don’t fall into this category? Then you don’t need to file an intra-community statement or a so-called ‘nihil’ (i.e. empty) client listing.

When should you file an intra-community statement on the Intervat website?

• Self-employed people who are subject to VAT must file their intra-community statement at the same time as their ‘regular’ VAT return, i.e. before the 25th of the month following the end of the quarter for which you are filing your declaration.
• Do you fall under the VAT exemption scheme for small businesses (annual turnover under €25,000) and therefore don’t need to submit a VAT return, but have sold services or goods to EU clients? If that’s the case, you need to submit your intra-community statement before the 25th of the month following the end of the quarter for which you are submitting your statement.

Submit your intra-community statement with Accountable

Submit your intra-community client listing in just a few minutes with Accountable. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Export your intra-community statement from the app

• Go to the Taxes screen and find the relevant quarter.
• Click on Intracom listing and export it.
• Save the XML document to your computer.

Step 2: Log in to Intervat

• Connect to Intervat via this link.
• Upload the XML file you exported from Accountable under ‘Declaration by file’.

Do you also need to submit a VAT return? Then check ‘I want to submit more than one file’ and upload both XML files at the same time.

Step 3: Submit your intra-community statement

In ‘My declarations’, check that your most recent statement has been submitted. 

⚠️ If you see the status ‘Success’, your intra-community statement has been successfully submitted.
