Occasionally, you might receive an invoice via the Peppol network that is not intended for your business. While Peppol is more secure than email, it is still possible for invoices to be delivered incorrectly.

This can happen, for example, if:

  • A supplier uses the wrong Peppol identifier

  • A supplier’s Peppol provider makes a routing mistake

Don’t worry. This does not mean your account is compromised.

What should I do if I receive a wrong invoice?

If the invoice is clearly not meant for you, you can safely:

  1. Delete the invoice
The invoice will not be booked, paid, or included in any tax calculations.

  2. Do not process or approve it
Simply removing it is enough. No further action is required on your side.

At the moment, the Peppol network does not support spam filters or automatic blockers, so incorrect invoices can occasionally pass through.

Do I need to contact the supplier?

No. You are not required to contact the supplier or take any additional steps. The responsibility for correct delivery lies with the sender and their Peppol provider.

Is my data or account at risk?

No.
Receiving a wrong invoice does not give the sender access to your data, your account, or your bank details. It is comparable to receiving a letter addressed to you by mistake.

Can this be prevented in the future?

Unfortunately, incorrect deliveries cannot always be prevented at network level. However:

  • They are rare

  • They do not affect your bookkeeping unless you actively process the invoice

We continuously monitor these cases and improve our guidance to help you handle them with confidence.

Still unsure?

If you’re uncertain whether an invoice belongs to you, our support team is happy to help. Reach out to us anytime and we’ll take a look with you.

Bottom line:
If an invoice isn’t yours, delete it and move on. Your books stay clean, and nothing breaks.
